Red Clay CLOSED today due to flooding of bus yards

May 1, 2014

At least it’s not snowing. Happy day off, kids! Be careful out there, and stay out of the water.

From the Red Clay website:

Due to heaving rains, bus yards of Red Clay Transportation Contractors are flooded. Without the ability to transport students, Red Clay Schools will be closed today. All teachers and staff members are to report as scheduled.

Those “heaving rains” are the worst kind!

Darn Christina District is open. I KNEW we should have built the bus yard closer to the river!!!

Red Clay bus contractors have been keeping their buses in the same flood plain in Stanton ever since I was a kid, and they still keep them there even after we started getting hundred-year floods every few years. ZWhen it rains they get the drivers up in the wee hours and make them move the buses… on a rainy morning you can see the buses all lined up on the shoulder of Route 7 by Delaware Park. I guess they forgot to move the buses this time.

I hope they are getting a good deal on that bus yard!
